The chairman and chief executive officer of AVRP Skyport in San Diego, California, Douglas Austin additionally spearheads activities at the architectural design firm’s offices in Los Angeles and Irvine, as well as in Vancouver, British Columbia. Douglas Austin first went into business for himself as a self-employed, AIA-affiliated architect in 1976.
Over the course of his career as an architect and city planner, he has championed a unique philosophy of urban design that incorporates both residential and commercial development with an emphasis on livability and open public spaces. He played an instrumental role in the expansion of the metropolitan San Diego experience into the Gaslamp Quarter. As a result of these accomplishments, he has garnered a range of honors and awards, from a People to Watch award to a special commendation from the Mayor and City Council as one of San Diego’s leading visionaries for his work as a “guardian” of the city skyline.
